Karl Armstrong, Attorney at Law
Commissioner Armstrong is a graduate of the
University of Illinois at Chicago and the University of Iowa College of
Law. While at the University of Iowa College of Law, he served as
Managing Editor of The Journal of Corporation Law. Following
graduation from law school, he joined the Office of the Cook County Public
Defender as an Assistant Public Defender in the criminal and juvenile
divisions.
He arrived in Nevada in 1991 and served as a law
clerk to both the Honorable Addeliar D. Guy, III and the Honorable Sally
Loehrer. In 1993, Commissioner Armstrong joined the Office of the
Attorney General as a Deputy Attorney General. In that office, Mr.
Armstrong served in the litigation and Worker’s Compensation Fraud Units.
While in the Worker’s Compensation Fraud Unit, he prosecuted cases of
workers’ compensation fraud on behalf of the citizens of the State of
Nevada. In 1997, he began working as an Assistant General Counsel of the
University and Community College System of Nevada. In this position, Mr.
Armstrong represented the institutions of higher education in the State of
Nevada. In 2001, he took a staff position as an attorney with the
Corporate Law Department of State Farm Insurance Company as a Claims
Litigation Counsel. In 2002, he became Interim Managing Attorney of that
office. Mr. Armstrong is now associated with Ray Lego and Associates,
Traveler's Staff Counsel. Mr.
Armstrong is a “BV” rated litigator by Martindale-Hubbell.
Commissioner Armstrong has served as a member of the
Southern Nevada Disciplinary Panel of the State Bar of Nevada from 1993 to
2002. He also served as a member of the Standing Committee on Judicial
Ethics and Election Practices from 1998 to 2000.
Commissioner Armstrong and his wife Shondra are the
parents of three sons, Dexter, Brandon and Kieran. He has served as a
member of the Board of Directors of the Boulder Dam Council of the Boy
Scouts of America and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nevada.
Commissioner Armstrong was appointed an Alternate
Commissioner by the State Bar of Nevada in 2001. That term expired in
2003. He was appointed as a Regular Commissioner in 2003 and
reappointed in 2010. His term expires
in 2016.
